Santa Rosa's Original Certified Farmers Market

Santa Rosa, CA, May 12, 2012:  We shop farmers markets at home and like shopping them when we travel even when we lack cooking facilities.  California farmers market are especially wonderful and we try to visit at least one, if not two or more.  On our previous visits we have always just missed the Saturday morning market at the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Hall by flying out Saturday morning and arriving mid afternoon.  So this year we planned to come a day early so we'd be sure to visit the Saturday market.  As luck would have it, we visited the last Original Certified Farmers Market at this location and were told that it was already a shadow of its historic past.  The following weekend, the Original Certified Farmers Market was moving to the far north side of Santa Rosa.  Many vendors were moving but others were staying to join the Redwood Empire Farmers' Market which was organized to continue a farmers market at the Veterans Memorial Hall.  You can read the Press Democrats take on all of this here.  Meanwhile, here's our first visit to the last Original Certified Farmers Market at Veterans Memorial Hall.
