San Clemente, CA, May 16-18, 2012: The palm trees let you know you are in California.
The San Clemente Pier juts almost 1/4 mile into the Pacific Ocean. Some Amtrak trains stop at the foot of the pier. Visitors walk, fish, eat, drink, swim, surf, people watch and have a grand time.

The good news for tourists and residents alike is that the morning gray usual gives way to brilliant afternoon sunshine.
