San Clemente, CA, July 16, 2011: San Clemente has great beaches for swimming, a pier for fishing and arguably the best surfing in California. It's the only place in California with a train station right on the beach. Tourism is part of the local economy particularly in the summer. To gin up the beach season, San Clemente has several annual events, of which the Ocean Festival is the biggest.

There are also various surfing contests by gender and age group; we saw teenaged women:
Woodies play a central role in Surfing Culture and are exhibited on the Pier during the annual Ocean Festival. On today's market, Janet Sharps' 1950s Woodie, if renovated, would bring about $86,000.00.
